Indigenous people or things belong to the country in which they are found, rather than  coming there or being brought there from another country.

（Collins English Dictionary）

ということで、

「その土地にもともといる」

「先住の」

「土着の」

「在来種の」

という意味です。

もちろん、人、動物、植物のどれでも使えます。

Giant pandas are indigenous to China.

（パンダは中国の原産種だ。）

というように、「ある場所」にもともといる、という時には場所の前に

indigenous to 場所

と前置詞は to がきます。

companion

A companion is someone who you spend time with or who you are travelling with.

「仲間」「同伴者」ですね。

arrogant

＝behaving in an unpleasant or rude way because you think you are more important than other people

ということで、「尊大な」「傲慢な」という意味ですね。

筆者が受験生のときに、センター試験のリスニングで

arrogantをelegantと聞き間違えて、

？と焦ったことがありました。。。

気を付けましょう。

expecting

pregnant「妊娠している」の婉曲表現で、

expecting（a baby/a child）で「お産が近い」といった感じの表現です。

expect　は「人」を目的語にして、

★「人」が訪れるのを待っている（訪れると考えている）

という表現にもなります。

I’m expecting someone.（人を待っているんです。）

I expected you earlier.（もっと早く来ると思っていたよ。）

とか会話文で使われることが多いので、注意していきましょう！

1.　(≒unite)統合する；合併する

2.　(≒strengthen)強固にする

※「（会社を）まとめて統合する」「合併する」という意味で一番使います。

reluctant

で

「なかなか～したがらない」

「なかなか～する気が起きない」

ですね。

受験生なら絶対知っておかないといけない単語のひとつです。

なかなか勉強する気がおきない時は、

I am[feel] reluctant to studyだな！

とその都度思い出そう！

◎秋葉原にいそうなコンピュータ オタクとか

◎ＩＴベンチャーにいそうなＰＣに凄く詳しいけど変わった人

というイメージの人を言う（差別？）用語ですね。

nerdという（差別？）用語もオタクっぽい人を指します。

こっちは…

◎内向的で全然ぱっとしないコミュ障なオタクっぽい人

というイメージです。

→介入する

自動詞なので

intervene in/between ～

と前置詞を必要とするので要注意！

There is increasing demand for the United Nations to intervene in trouble spots throughout the world.

（世界中の紛争地域に国連が介入することが、ますます必要になってきている。）
